Those of you that use firefox...

Have you deleted IE and outlook express?

Could you share your experience with firefox?

I guess I'm curious about it, but not quite sure about making the switch. Any info is helpful. Thanks all!

To post 1:

I use Firefox 3.5.2 with Jaws 8, it works well. I'd advise you not to try to remove Internet Explorer. You can remove Outlook Express if you want to and switch to another e-mail program. The program I used to remove it is called XPLite. The e-mail program I use is called Thunderbird. It is Jaws friendly with no scripts needed. There are several topics on using it on this board, same for Firefox.

I used to use Firefox much more often, and had made the mistake of trying to delete Internet Explorer since I didn't think I'd ever use it again anyway. But it turned out that Firefox would keep crashing on some pages I wanted to use, so I had downloaded and started using Web IE, which was alright and worked for me for the most part in place of the regular IE. Now that I just got my computer fixed (due to other problems), and I again have IE, (IE 8), I'm using that with the System Access program, and that's working pretty well for me. I just recently downloaded Firefox again though, and use it with NVDA. Even though I personally had problems with it at that one point, I want to think it was just my computer, as I was having problems with it at the time, so I think it is still worth using. It does have some features that IE finally caught up on, like opening new pages in tabs and being able to restore your browsing session if it crashes. But something that Firefox also has is an addon you can get called Web Visum that has several very useful features that include the ability to solve Captchas. So if anything, the fact that I can solve a Captcha more independently (if I ever wanted to sign up for anything) was enough to convince me to get Firefox again.

Hi,
to the users of firefox, have you noticed that since ff 3.5.2, you no longer get asked to remember passwords on sites which you newly visit?
well, that's if you let ff store your passwords for you in which this case i do, since so many forums and sites require that one use a username and password for access.

I've tried uninstalling internet explorer, but can't. Mind you if you're using windows 7 beta, it doesn't come with internet explorer unless you've put it on there.

To post 5:

I think you mean Windows 7 RTM: (Release To Manufacturing.) It will be released to the general public on October 22, 2009. And no, you are incorrect, it does come with Internet Explorer in the installer, but you can decide not to install it. If you do so however, you better have a copy of another browser like Firefox. O, and by the way, Windows 7 doesn't work all that well with Jaws 10. Wait until Jaws 11 comes out. I just hope that Jaws 11 does not stop supporting XP.

Hold on here, jaws 10works fine with windows seven. I'm using jaws 10.1154 with windows seven build 7100, and absolutely no problems. For the action center you have to use the jaws cursor to read something if it doesn't pop up in the little menu when you press enter on its system tray, and you choose action center, but other then that it works fine.
The action center I am referring to, is if I see action center 1 issues detected. If I press enter on that button, it pops up with a little dialogue/menu. It'll say open action center, and if I tab over once or twice, it'll tell me the problem its found so you can go directly to it, or open up the action center and do other things that are not related to that problem before tackling it. The wireless connection network chooser is exactly the same thing.

same as above with windows 7 though i haven't had the same issue with the wireless connection chooser. I am assuming the person that mentione that it didn't work too well went from xp to windows 7 like most will do and and probably didn't realize that alot of what changed with navigating the OS with a keyboard was changed in vista and has nothing to do with jaws./windows 7. I infact am using windows 7 as my sole day to day OS as we speak. As for firefox, well more sites are coded better to work in firefox now so its extremely rare to have to use IE for anything anymore. Oh and you can't uninstall Internet Explorer from your computer since its so deeply enbedded into the OS... as it is well.. windows explorer. I believe it may have been the european version of the beta or RC of windows 7 that didn't install IE or rather gave you the option to install it or not and that was because microsoft was going to originally ship it in europe that way. Now however the actuall retail release will give you a ballot screen and ask which browser you want to install.

To monkeypusher69,

Hi, I was the one who had mentioned about the Win 7 possibility of it not working with Jaws 10. I stand corrected. Do you run the RTM (Released To Manufacturing) build of Win 7, or do you run the RC1 build, if so, how fast is it in comparison to xp pro sp3? Can you turn off the visual effects, and the drm?

Post 10 by monkeypusher69 (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Wednesday, 02-Sep-2009 12:06:30

well i am running it on a 3 plus year old dell thats running with a pentium mobile processor at 2.13GHZ and 1GB of ram and it runs just as well if not as better as XP did. Yeah you can turn off all the effects and the like but its a much cleaner interface than vista so you don't have to turn off/clean it up as much. The DRM not sure what DRM your are refering to but you usually can't turn off DRM as its whats need so the OS can play back blue ay movies or other copy protected files. Oh and i am running The RC since it will work till march of next year. The RTM build which should be the final and identical to the retail release of the product i believe is just a 30 day trial.

The only trouble I've had with firefox is installing the quicktime plugin which I can't find any more. Can someone send it to me or do Ihave to doenload it directly to this computer?

It doesn't matter now. I found quick time, but it was in a different place to where I thought it was. Now I can get the zone sounds. Yay.
